The Message Forum

This is one of the society's most powerful communications tools, and the most visited area on the site. It is open to all researchers and is, therefore, unlimited in its access. I would request that new people who use it register on the society data base, in order that I can send them information on society developments. But if all you want to do is post a message, that is alright as well.

You will find a topic called Messages from previous forum. This covers all topics from our previous site. Each of these are in a separate folder but can be accessed by clicking on View all threads at the bottom of the page. You can respond directly from the files thus revealed.

When entering a new topic please think carefully about the title you use. It needs to be sufficiently specific to attract anyone who might have a similar interest. For instance a full name, a place and a timescale (eg John Donohoe of Cavan Town 1840-80) would be more likely to spark an interest than just a name.

Society coordinators review the message forum and it helps them if you provide as much detail about an ancestor you are researching as you can, in particular - Father's christian and surname and mother's christian name and if possible maiden name.
- Approximate date of marriage
- In relation to Ireland, county and townland if known
- Sources you have already consulted for the above information

Keep your message as succinct as possible while getting across as much as will encourage further contact, with fuller details possible in subsequent messages.

There is a search routine on the forum to enable one to find data of interest.
