THE IRISH FOLKLORE CENTRE

(Sponsored by The O’Donoghue Society)

Heroic Landscapes: Irish Myth and Legend can only provide a snapshot of the vast panoply of Irish myths, legends, folk tales, manners and customs. The Centre will provide a focus for the whole Irish folk tradition. Anyone can to input their favourite stories for the pleasure of others and explore the subject via related blogs.  You need to register if making first visit, or log in if already registered

Folklore enthusiasts (of any name) from around the world can participate in the creation of a data base of stories over a number of different categories (largely following the chapter headings in Heroic Landscapes) and covering all the counties of Ireland. If you don’t know where to assign your story just show it as ‘unassigned’ and the Administrator will place it in the relevant category based on the predominant character or feature.

Copyright guidance: If you rewrite a story then generally copyright will not be a problem because most of the tales must of necessity be very old. Copyright law necessitates that authors must have died 70 years ago for a story to be reproduced without the author’s permission. The obligation is on the submitter to the data base to satisfy him/herself on copyright issues before inputting a story.
