Officer Donahue was shot to death by a suspected robber on the platform of the Market-Frankford Elevated Station at 11th Street. Officer Donahue had gone into the subway after learning of the holdup of a dry cleaner. The suspect shot Officer Donahue twice at close range. The suspected killer was later shot and killed by police in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
