Donnacha

O'Donoghue

Title:
Mr.
Nationality:
Irish
Walk of life:
Donnacha belonged to the Boherbee football team who won the county league in 1918. The interesting story though is the part he played in the assassination of the Major. Major Mckinnon was a 1st World War Officer and an Auxiliary rampant in Tralee with the Tans. After shooting dead 2 I.R.A. men on Christmas night in 1920 it was decided by the community that he had to be "contained". An ambush was arranged in the old Golf Links in Clounalour where a known sharpshooter Con Healy, shot him through the head at the 3rd hole. It was Donnacha (an I.R.A. member) as well as Patseen Connor, Paddy Kelly and Tom Tangney who were scouts who kept watch throughout the ambush.
