Thomas W. Dunfee is the Joseph Kolodny Chair of Social Responsibility in Business at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Tom is a professor of Legal Studies and chaired the Legal Studies Department 1979-85, 87-91. He was Vice Dean responsible for the Undergraduate Division from 2000-20003. Tom served as president of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (1989-90), was Editor-In-Chief of the American Business Law Journal (1975-77), and received the Distinguished Senior Faculty Award for Excellence from the ALSB in 1991. He also served as president of the Society for Business Ethics (1995-6) and is a member of the Business Roundtable Institute for Corporate Ethics’ Advisory Council where he also serves as an Academic Advisor.

Tom’s current research interests focus on a social contract based approach to business and professional ethics and global business ethics. Tom has been a visiting professor at The University of Michigan, Georgetown University, the University of Florida, the University of Newcastle (Australia) and Indiana University and he has lectured at many European and Asian universities. He is the author or editor of several books (e.g. Harvard Business School Press, McGraw-Hill, Prentice-Hall, Wiley and Kluwer) and has published articles in, among others, the Academy of Management Review, Business Ethics Quarterly, California Law Review, Economics and Philosophy, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Marketing, Law and Contemporary Problems and the Northwestern Law Review. He is on the editorial board of several journals including the Academy of Management Review. He has consulted to a variety of clients (e.g. United Way of America, Glaxo SmithKline, the Independence Standards Board, McGraw-Hill), has served as an expert witness in several cases (e.g. General Motors, Honda, Georgia Pacific, and Great Adventure) and has been a judge for a variety of ethics awards including the Better Business Bureaus Torch Awards.
