Biographical details:

Jim Donahue has served Hampton Beach since 1959 when he was 16 years of age. Currently he is Chief of a squad composed of 34 Lifeguards. Each guard is certified in first aid, CPR and has lifeguards. Each day guards must be subjected to CPR reviews and a 35 to 45 minute workout before going on duty from 9a.m. until 5:30p.m. There are from 23 to 27 guards on duty each day throughout the summer months. Duties include swimming safety, finding lost children, administering first aid and enforcing rules and by-laws of the beach. With about 50,000 people using the beach on a daily basis, the squad has suffered only one drowning. Jim is married and both children have worked under him.
