John came to Australia in 1840 with his wife Bedelia Fitzpatrick. He was 26 and Bedelia 19. His parents were James O’Donoghue, a farmer in Ennis and Annie Kelly. Bedelia’s parents were John Fitzpatrick, a farmer in Ennis and Juliana O’Brien. Interestingly John uses the name Donoghue when registering the children’s births in NSW and Bedelia uses the name Bridget. Whether these are the true names and the shipping clerks got it wrong I don’t know.
