Over the years I have been asked on many occasions if the Society would organise a gathering. In response to those enquiries, our Council is hoping to hold a gathering around the first weekend of October 2027 in Killarney, Co. Kerry, Ireland.
Before we start detailed planning, we need to know whether there is sufficient demand to make the considerable effort worthwhile.
For those who do not know the Killarney area, it is one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland and offers many attractions – and it is full of O’Donoghue history.
There will be activities at a central location for all to attend. Activities will include talks about The Society, the DNA Project, the colourful and varied O’Donoghue history, not just in Kerry, plus opportunities to see Ross Castle, take a boat tour of Loch Lein, a jaunting car ride to Muckross House or the Gap of Dunloe, walking trails to Muckross Abbey (containing O’Donoghue graves) and events for mixing and mingling. These will offer you the opportunity to meet other people of the name researching their heritage and meet relatives and ‘cousins’ from across the globe and locally.
We would aim to entertain you in the Irish way and involve you in the wonderful heritage that our name provides all over Ireland.
Come join us please whether your name is Donahue, Donohue, Donoghue, Donohoe, O’Donoghue, Dunphy, Donahoe, Donoho, Dunfee, Donahoo or any of the many variants of our Irish Ó Donnchadha name.
Please respond by September 20 to Laura Bravo at bravola32@gmail.com if you are likely to attend. More details will follow after we find if there is enough interest to proceed.
Cheers
Rod O’Donoghue
Founder of the Society
